To Anonymous

{For those who aren't "anonymous" and need a little background, "anonymous" left a comment on my blog:

This is exactly why people should think twice before getting a pet. Most people know whether they want kids or not.
If you think you would give away a pet after having a baby, don't adopt the pet. A pet is a commitment for the life of
the pet, possibly 20 years. If you can't make a 20 year commitment, you have no business adopting.

Be a responsible adult. You made a lifelong commitment to that animal when you brought it into your home. When it
becomes "inconvenient" to you you don't have the right to get rid of your pet - it's your RESPONSIBILITY.

Maybe instead of blogging, you should have taken your dog on a walk.}

First off, I'm sorry you aren't a strong enough person to just list your name. If you're going to be so blatant (and off) at least let me know where I can send my hate mail.

Second, I was a strong enough person to realize that my dog (who I love) would be happier living with my best friends. Down the street where we can still see her. I adopted Lexi from the Humane Society after she had already been returned there TWICE by other irresponsible owners. I was a very responsible owner and believe I still am by allowing her to live somewhere where she can't jump the fence, and thus can play outside (which she loves) rather than be stuck inside all day with a toddler who drives her crazy because he is aggressively loving. Maybe if my husband wasn't in school and we had some sort of income, we would have been able to purchase a new fence, but that's not the case. (And please spare me your lecture on having children while still in school because I'm sure you're the kind of person that's against that too.)

I never thought I'd give her away once I had children. But I also never thought I'd develop MS and that everything in my life would be just a little harder than for normal, healthy people. So back off. Go have two babies and get a disease and then let me know how you feel about life and responsibility.

And maybe instead of leaving anonymous comments on blogs you should learn to be a decent person.

Pay no attention Liz. Only you can know how much you love Lexi. Having spend a lot of time at your house, I can vouch for how much that pooch was loved. I'm glad she's not too far!

let's keep it clean, people. we can be insulting and rude without swearing, right? ha.

and although my loving and loyal stevie brought up PETA, let's not turn this into a PETA-bash. we all know there are many crazies in PETA, but we're all against cruelty to animals too, right? plus this is about someone being lame, member of PETA or not.

WoW! I Cannot believe someone wrote that comment. Who are they to judge you! I think you made the best decision considering all factors! Good Job! I applaud you!

Anonymous messed with the wrong person.

I apologize for my comment. I did not mean for it to come across as rude and judgmental. I guess I should have worded it differently. After having reread it I can see that it was not kind. I do not know you personally and I don't know your situation, so I had no right to judge. Given your health condition it is understandable you had to give your dog away. I am sorry. I was upset last night and I came across your blog and I let my emotions get the better of me.

I work in an animal shelter in Australia and I see thousands of animals euthanized. I see so many irresponsible pet owners who don't think before they adopt a pet.

I am glad you gave your dog to friends whom you can trust.

I left my comment anonymously because I didn't think being anonymous was such a big deal. I will remember that from now on.

Regards,

Alex

That actually made me REALLY mad when I saw the original post by anonymous. I'm glad he became known but I have a little side note: you obviously are an amazing mom and I've had some health issue in the last year and knowing about your whole situation, I always think of you. Being a mom and being sick is hard but you have been a great example to me. I think you are fabulous and I LOVE your blog. :)

i guess now that alex has apologized, that puts a damper on this commenting rant? all is fun and games until someone apologizes. (deflating...) back to youtube.

oh liz- you little pot stirrer, you! some people really just don't know when to say when, but at least you got mr. anonymous to own up. guess i'll think twice about posting my own fairwell to the beloved pooch. you think i'll get harangued for sending her to my parents for a couple of years?!

On that note, does anyone want to adopt Bode? :)

aaaahh!! I am laughing so hard. "go get a disease"!

I really had some good ones...but now I feel lame since there's been an apologie....so I'll save them for the next anonymous commenter who dare cross your blog.

First off, I love you. Second of all, I must say that I sympathize for Alex. I can't imagine the things he sees and therefore understandably gets immediately defensive when it comes to animals. I feel that his comment was harsh, unfeeling and completely uncalled for. He was short, rude and cold to someone he doesn't know anything about! That being said, I am impressed that he came back here and revealed himself along with an apology. That took....guts, and he has my mark for that.

I am SO sorry about Lexi! I know how much you loved (love) her. It is such a great thing that you can still see her and even dog sit every now and then.

And finally, how are you?? We haven't chatted forever! Aside from this whole dog/anonymous fiasco, I hope you're doing swell!

Are you freaking kidding me. Whoever left that message is a freaking dip wad. Sorry you had such a mean person looking at your blog and leaving a comment, but KUDOS to you to a great post in response!!

K, but is it just me, or is this not a perfect example of not ever knowing what another person is going through, and makes us sometimes do the things we do... on both ends? Not saying it makes it right, but it's nice to have a little understanding as to what makes us act/do the things we may do at times.

J-ROK said...

WOW! You are a comments queen! I bow to your blogger kingdom. However, you deserve it for standing up both to the reality of what's best for your dog and your family and your feelings about the mean anonymous note! You are assertive and I could learn a few things from you!

M. Kasch said...

I agree with my sister (J-ROK,) I'm glad that you've discussed the issue of being anonymous. . . It's such an easy way out.
On another note: I'm sorry to hear about your dog, but you did it for her own good. It's better in the long run. Don't worry about it.
