dyson tricked me (a non-political entry for today so that those of you who do not want to get involved with the Cheney debate can be entertained too!)

if you, like me, can be entertained with talk of vacuums...a few days ago i saw a commercial for the new dyson slim and was overjoyed. you'd think a model titled "slim" would come at a reduced cost, right? well, it does-but only by about $80 (compared to the non-slim models)-ringing up at a whopping $469.99. i guess my dreams of owning a dyson (specifically the DC17 for pets) are no closer to coming true.

Dyson's are great, but totally expensive, so it doesn't surprise me that there's only an $80 difference between models. We have a dyson canister vac, and it's great, but sadly, not as great as I had hoped. Mostly, I'm not a big fan of the attachments. The main attachment that it came with is not really designed as a hard surface floor attachment, which was surprising, since most people with hard flooring use canister vacuums. Anyway, so we ordered the hard wood floor attachment from the company, and it was like $75! As if we hadn't already paid out the nose for the vacuum. To make it a little worse, that attachment was not what I expected either. I expected a rubbery one or something, but this one is lined with lots of soft bristles all the way around, which, yes, is soft and protective for hard wood, but it makes it nearly impossible to vacuum up hair, human or pet. I have to pick stuff off the bottom every time I vacuum, almost like a broom. Gross.

Anyway, other than the attachments, I really love it. Just food for thought on the dyson front. Their customer service department is really great though. A significant piece broke on ours about a year after we got it, and they replaced it, no charge, no problem. I would just do research into other vacuums on Consumer Reports or something, or at the very least, check out what the attachments that come with the upright are like (if it matters to you!).

Clearly, I am just as entertained with talk of vacuums as you are!

wow-buddens-i hit the jackpot with you! you've got tips and advice on just about everything! i have seen commercials lately for a filterless/bagless upright by another maker, but i can't for the life of me remember who. i belive it was green in color. i'll have to keep my eyes peeled and then research that one. but i'm pretty sure the cost isn't much less than the dyson.

i have heard the same about dyson's customer service. and the fact that they offer a 5-year warranty speaks highly of the product.

I'm sorry, i hate vacuuming and cleaning for that matter. I wish my house would just clean itself. Good thing my husband is such a great helper, or we would be in trouble.
