non-call center cling-on

yesterday was my last day of work managing the call center. today i get to be a work- at- home mom. is this a good thing? here are my concerns: i'll be shut off from the rest of the world. nash will become super attached to me. i'm not as worried about being bored-there is always plenty of tv to watch, cleaning and painting and organizing and remodeling to do, and i'll be starting up my graphic design position. but it's just me and nash now. don't get me wrong, i love my boy, but right now when i leave him, he just watches me go and is fine with it. i don't want him to have that realization that when i go away i'm going away! i don't want to deal with fits of crying and pounding his head on the floor (my little cousin used to do that). but if he's with ME all day, every day at this time in his life when things are starting to really make sense, am i setting myself up for disaster? i think most moms worry that they won't be able to stay home with their kids and be with them every step of the way. here i am, lucky enough to be able to work from home and be with my son all day, and i'm thinking it's not the best situation. i went back to work with nash after only a week or so. he's practically been raised in the call center with all my friends and family there. and if not there he's at grandma's with the cousins. he's used to that social atmosphere. i'm just so scared he'll turn into a needy, clingy little guy that drives me mad! any tips from you experienced mommies?

I want to know more about your new at-home job! I don't have any advice for the baby...since I'm not to that stage yet. :)

hw-i'll tell you more when i know more! ha. basically the company i work for decided they spend way to much money using a graphic design firm and started up their own media arm. i'm the graphic designer and then another guy will do all the AV stuff. so far i've just been designing logos and letterheads and basic office stuff....

Liz, Count your blessings you are able to stay at home and work from home to give you some type of outlet. Find someone you trust that you can do swaps with so you can get out and so Nash can have some time away from you. Olivia has never cried once when I've left her...I think it all depends on the personality.

I sort of think it depends on the kid, and on their mood. Sometimes my daughter cries when I leave, other times she couldn't care less. BTW, I have always stayed at home with her full time. Anyway, it's sort of trial and error I guess. My best suggestion would be to just be proactive about planning stuff with other moms so he can still have times to play with other kids. Swimming lessons and parks are always great. Good luck! And you really are lucky!

Ah dearest - not to fear. I have always been a stay at home Mom and I was worried about the same thing. I was surprised that sometimes I would leave and Cache would just...watch me go. He was fine! But I think that every child goes through that anxiety of seeing a parent leave for a bit - I don't think there's a way to avoid it. But kids are tough and even though he might cry or be upset, it will pass and he will be fine! Nash is a really good baby, so he'll adjust - they all do! Don't worry, it won't be awful. You'll do great!

Congrats on the new job and staying at home. It does take some adjusting but it is good to be at home with your baby. I agree that a lot has to do with your baby's personality and I think most kids go through a clingy stage regardless of whether they often go to sitters or never do. I think it is important to find playgroups or classes to take kids to for your own sanity and social interaction as well as theirs. Good luck!

When is Nash coming to play with Emers?

many of you have suggested kid swaps and play dates. problem: what if i don't know ANY other moms? there are literally NONE in my ward. i know, hard to believe since i'm in utah, but there really aren't. it's all old ladies!

I can't give you much advice as far as it goes with Nash, but tell Steve to start making friends in law school that have kids too. I know they exist :-) Really wish we could help you out in that department, but the stork hasn't stopped by here yet.

Um...since you are officially working up here now we should do lunch! And maybe someday we can do the kid swap thing. But as for now, all I can offer is my babysitting skills from when I was 12.
