the law school halloween party is fast approaching and i desperately need help! as you know, nash is being a shark this year. the plan has been that stevie bevie and i would go as his shark attack victims (an attacked swimmer/tourist, and a lifeguard). here's where i need your help. one of stevie bevie's law school peers is missing an arm. the plan was for stevie to be dressed up in a tattered hawaiian shirt with a missing arm-the victim. obviously you can see our concern here. so, my question is this: if you were missing a limb, would you be offended by a halloween costume involving the same missing limb? in case this influences your answer, the peer did not lose his arm in a shark attack.

costume dilemma

My response was initially going to be "depends how I lost my arm" then you cleverly added that as the last line of your post...so...
I'm not a terribly sensitive person, so I don't think I would be offended, but then again, I still have both arms.
Even if I were offended, there's a baby in a shark costume, and that's just too freakin' cute to stay angry at for long.
That's a toughy. I would say I'd probably think it was super clever ... until the day I really lost my arm. Even then I may still be cool with it, but I don't know? How good of friends is he with the guy? If he's buddies with him, he could always ask him what he thinks in advance. But then he may just lie and say he's ok but really isn't. Looks like I'm really no help. Seriously though, of all the random problems to run into with a Halloween costume you've been planning for months (since before you met the guy with no arm), this one I think takes the cake! Good luck!
I say it's fine, Brian thinks maybe it wouldn't be the best to show up with a missing arm. But maybe you could make it look like the shark took a bite out of his side and have a big hole in the side with guts and stuff. That could be good. But either way would probably be fine...seriously if you are missing a limb you should be able to laugh about it right?
Not unless I lost it in a shark attack. I say go for it. I think they wouldn't be offended if it were clearly part of a costume and not a jest at those missing limbs. I agree with alifnale for other missing body parts.
aren't lawyers frequently referred to as sharks?!? is he a jokester at all? I think it's awesome and perfect...how many people are going to be at the party? there better be tons of awesome pics... -al
I think that people without limbs tend to be really tolerant of other people, so even if he did think you were ignorant he wouldn't be mad! haha! seriously though. I really think it would be ok...
I still can't get over how ironic that is. Maybe you can ask him to be a part of your costume as another tourist (jk)!
ROFL at beeta and peeps
wow! haha
I have a friend with a missing leg. He asked everyone to vote him in as best legs for the yearbook and won. The pic was a girl with nice legs holding lotion and him holding WD40 next to his fake leg. (you prob saw the pic)
most ppl with situations like that have senses of humor about it as far as my experiences go.
